U.S, June 09, 2026 - Google has announced a major upgrade to NotebookLM, introducing advanced reasoning capabilities, new output formats, and enhanced research tools designed to help users complete projects more efficiently.
According to the company, the latest version of the AI-powered research assistant is now powered by Gemini 3.5 and Antigravity, enabling it to deliver more accurate responses, deeper analysis, and greater transparency in how conclusions are generated.
“Millions of people and organizations turn to NotebookLM as a collaborative knowledge and research partner because it helps them organize their thinking, identify deeper connections across their documents, and spark new ideas,” Google said.
“Today we’re introducing across-the-board upgrades to NotebookLM that deliver new agentic capabilities in chat and more advanced reasoning to tackle the most complex research projects,” the company added.
One of the most significant additions is a secure cloud computer that allows NotebookLM to write and execute code to support advanced research and data analysis tasks.
The upgraded system also includes more than 100 curated software skills designed to help users better understand and analyze their source materials.
Google has further expanded the assistant’s output capabilities, allowing users to generate PDF reports with charts and tables, budget spreadsheets, student worksheets, presentations, and other customized materials directly from their research sources.

The new export formats include PDF and Word documents, spreadsheets, presentations, images, structured data files, and data visualizations.
Google also said the assistant can now help users build source libraries using loose ideas and questions entered into the chat, removing the need to manually gather all sources before starting a project.
NotebookLM will also utilize Google Search to identify relevant and high-quality web sources and add them directly to notebooks.
“Perhaps you want to find primary sources in other languages to better understand new perspectives, or you’re seeking related works by an author you recently discovered,” the company stated.
“You’re still in control of the sources that you add to your notebook so that your work stays grounded in the information you trust, and all sources continue to be clearly attributed,” it added.
The new features are rolling out globally on the web starting today for Google AI Ultra subscribers and Google Workspace business customers with AI Ultra Access and AI Expanded Access, with plans to expand availability to more users over time.
