Kenya, April 27, 2026 - Google has officially launched two Gemini-powered features in Google Drive that are set to transform how users interact with files stored in Google Drive.
The two features, AI Overviews in Drive and Ask Gemini in Drive, were announced in March as part of a broader Gemini overhaul across Workspace.
The company has confirmed that the features have already exited beta and are available for users globally.
The AI Overviews in Drive, which has been integrated directly into the drive search bar, uses Gemini to scan documents and provide clear answers right at the top of your search results, erasing the need to open several files to gather the details of a project.
Through this tool, users can ask questions directly from the drive search bar, instead of relying on exact keyword matches.
On the other hand, the ‘Ask Gemini in Drive ' is aimed at more detailed research and workflow management. The tech company says that the feature provides a workplace where a user can hold multi-turn conversations about selected files and folders.
One of the key components of the feature is the “Drive project which allows users to organize related files and folders into one project that can be shared across teams.
The feature also includes persistent chat history, which means that users can automatically return to their previous search sessions without restarting conversations.
“Both of these features are designed securely within the Drive architecture, meaning Gemini only accesses the content you are authorized to see, honoring your existing Workspace permissions and security policies,” Google said.
The company has confirmed that the two features are available for Workspace users on Business Standard, Enterprise Standard, Consumer Google AI Pro, and Ultra, as well as Education users with Google AI Pro for Education add-ons.
English rollout for the features began last week, while support for 28 additional languages will begin rolling out between early and mid-May, according to the company.
"Google is fundamentally changing how we interact with our stored files. Instead of endlessly digging through folders to find a specific document, Drive can now simply understand your files and answer your questions about them directly," the company said.
