United States, 16 July 2026 - Google has launched two new artificial intelligence-powered features for Google Vids, aimed at making it easier for users to create, edit and personalise videos using simple text prompts.
The company announced on Thursday that the new features for Gemini Omni and personal avatars will allow users to generate high-quality videos from text descriptions and images.
The new features will also allow users to create AI-powered avatars that can deliver messages without the need for a camera or a microphone.
The new capabilities are available to Google AI Pro, Google AI Ultra subscribers, and Google Workspace business customers using Google Vids
“Today, we’re rolling out two new updates to Google Vids to make it easier than ever to create, edit, and personalize your videos: Gemini Omni and personal avatars,” the company stated.
“Gemini Omni takes the hard work out of the editing process, so generating and refining high-quality clips is as easy as writing a simple prompt. And with personal avatars, you have an entirely new way to star in videos without setting up a camera,” the company stated
Gemini Omni will allow users to generate videos using natural language prompts. Through this feature, users can also upload image references, such as photographs or sketches, to guide the AI in creating videos that match their intended vision.
The tool also introduces conversational editing, enabling users to refine AI-generated or existing videos through text-based instructions.
Instead of manually editing the footage, users can ask the AI to change backgrounds, improve lighting, add visual effects, or make other adjustments using language prompts.
“Whether you're refining a video you generated with Omni or a clip you shot on your phone, you can use everyday language to prompt Vids to swap backgrounds, fix lighting, or add effects,” the tech giant stated.
Personal avatars, on the other hand, will enable users to create digital versions of themselves by uploading a selfie and a short voice recording.
Once created, the avatars will allow users to send video updates or personalised messages without recording themselves.
However, the company stated that the personal avatars are tied to a user's Google Account and can only be created using the account holder's own likeness. The feature is currently available only to users aged 18 and above in select regions.
To improve transparency around AI-generated content, Google said every video created with the new tools will include an invisible SynthID digital watermark, allowing AI-generated videos to be identified easily.
