Mogadishu (Dawan ) – Former Somali President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed has accused the government of violating citizens’ rights, saying its actions go against Islamic principles.
Ahmed made the remarks at an event in Mogadishu on Monday, where opposition leaders discussed defending rights, freedoms and dignity of Somali youth.
“Who knows what religion this government follows?... What do they respect?” he said.

The former president accused the government of showing no respect for human life, mosques, schools and the blood of Muslims, which he said Islam forbids shedding without cause.
Sharif also accused government leaders of being untrustworthy, saying their conduct had damaged public confidence.
Sharif’s remarks appear to be a political criticism of the government’s conduct and its handling of public rights, security and the sanctity of key institutions.
