Mogadishu, 31 August 2026 Director General of Somalia’s Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation Omar Afrah met with the Head of the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS), Qurat-ul-Ain Sadozai, on Sunday to discuss strengthening cooperation in aviation and airport security, the ministry said.
The meeting focused on enhancing United Nations technical support to strengthen the ministry’s capacity, particularly in civil aviation operations, security systems and airport safety standards.
The two sides also discussed the ongoing transition phase and the importance of developing a coordinated plan to ensure Somali institutions can effectively assume responsibilities related to aviation operations and technical support.

Director General Afrah thanked the United Nations for its continued support to Somalia, highlighting the importance of further strengthening cooperation to improve institutional capacity, enhance airport facilities and develop an aviation system that meets international standards.
The ministry said the cooperation is part of broader efforts to improve aviation security and establish a sustainable civil aviation system in Somalia.
