Somalia (Dawan Africa) – Former Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheyre said one person was killed and several others wounded during a protest in Mogadishu’s Dayniile district on Sunday.
Kheyre accused government forces of using live ammunition against protesters, whom he described as citizens peacefully expressing their views.
“I extend my condolences to the families and relatives of those who lost their lives today during our peaceful protest in Mogadishu, particularly in Dayniile district,” Kheyre said in a statement.
He said confirmed reports indicated that one person had been killed and several others injured during the unrest.
Dayniile was not among the locations approved by the federal government and the Banadir Regional Administration for the opposition protest.

Authorities had earlier designated Engineer Yariisow Stadium, also known as Koonis Stadium, as the only venue permitted for the demonstration, an arrangement later accepted by opposition groups following mediation efforts.
However, Dayniile had previously been listed by the opposition as one of several planned protest sites before an agreement was reached to limit the demonstration to a single location.
Kheyre said lawmaker Fa’isa Jeyte was among those present at the scene and had witnessed the casualties caused by the shooting.
The government has not immediately commented on Kheyre’s allegations.
The incident came amid heightened political tensions in Mogadishu linked to opposition protests and disputes over Somalia’s electoral and political process.
