Somalia, 3 April 2026- The European Union has welcomed an invitation extended by Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to the Future Council to participate in a national consultative meeting scheduled to take place in Mogadishu on May 10, 2026.
In a statement posted on X, EU Ambassador to Somalia Francesca Di Mauro said the European Union supports efforts aimed at strengthening political dialogue and encouraging constructive engagement among Somali stakeholders.
“In the interest of all Somalis, all sides should participate constructively and agree on a concrete way forward,” the statement said.

The EU also reaffirmed its readiness to support Somali-led efforts to resolve outstanding political issues and advance national consensus.
President Hassan Sheikh’s invitation follows a series of consultations held in recent weeks with political leaders, former national leaders, traditional elders, and various segments of Somali society, as the Federal Government seeks to broaden political dialogue and reinforce state-building efforts.
The upcoming meeting in Mogadishu is expected to focus on key national priorities, including elections, national unity, and Somalia’s broader political direction.
