MOGADISHU (Dawan Africa) — The European Union has urged Somali political stakeholders to continue inclusive dialogue aimed at reaching a political agreement that preserves peace and stability in the country.
Francesca Di Mauro made the remarks during a press conference on EU-Somalia relations covering governance, democracy, peace and stability, migration and economic cooperation.
“Dialogue must begin, it must continue, and we believe it should lead to concrete outcomes that preserve peace and stability in Somalia,” Di Mauro said.
She said Somalia was at a sensitive political moment and warned that decisions taken in the coming days would shape the country’s democratic trajectory and political stability.
The European Union and its member states have invested nearly 5 billion euros in Somalia over the past two decades to support state-building, security, stabilisation and socio-economic development, she said.
“The European Union and its member states expect all parties to engage in an inclusive and peaceful process to reach a political agreement that guarantees political stability,” Di Mauro added.
