Ethiopia, 4 January 2026 Ethiopian Electric Power announced that the Koysha Hydropower Dam has reached 72 per cent completion, as part of ongoing government efforts to expand Ethiopia’s electricity generation capacity. The project is expected to be completed within the next three years.
Speaking to local media, Moges Mekonnen, the company’s Director of Public Relations, said Koysha is among Ethiopia’s most strategic hydropower projects, noting that the next phase will focus on preparations to begin water impoundment within the coming two years.
Mekonnen explained that once completed, the dam will generate up to 6,460 megawatt-hours of electricity, helping to reduce the growing power supply gap, support economic development, and create a more attractive environment for domestic and foreign investment.
