Ethiopia, 4 November 2025 — Ethiopia’s National Rehabilitation Commission (NRC) has announced the reintegration of more than 20,000 former combatants from the Tigray and Amhara regions during the first quarter of the current fiscal year, describing the milestone as a significant step toward consolidating peace and development across the country.
National Rehabilitation Commissioner Temesgen Tilahun said during a performance review meeting in Hawassa that the initiative marks a key phase in Ethiopia’s Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR) program.
He noted that the total number of reintegrated ex-combatants since November last year has surpassed 80,000.
Tilahun attributed the progress to strong support from the federal government despite operational challenges that limited access to vocational training for some beneficiaries.
He called for greater coordination among regional authorities to ensure the long-term stability and sustainable integration of former fighters into their communities.
