ADDIS ABABA (Dawan) – Ethiopia launched a natural resource accounting system and the first land accounts report, marking a step toward integrating natural resource management into national development planning, according to Ethiopian news agencies.
The system focuses on assessing land, forests, water, and other natural resources, enabling government institutions to monitor environmental restoration projects, land rehabilitation efforts, and programs aimed at reducing land degradation.
Planning and Development Minister Bereket Fesehatsion highlighted that the system not only provides reporting but also strengthens Ethiopia’s capacity for evidence-based decision-making and responsible resource management. He emphasized that understanding and managing the country’s natural wealth will improve as institutional capacity grows and procedures are refined.
