Kenya, 13 June 2026 - The race for Seme Constituency appears to be gathering momentum long before the official campaign season, with TSC Commissioner Timon Alfred Otieno Oyucho receiving a major political boost after elders, women and youth leaders publicly endorsed his anticipated bid during a colourful ceremony at Kolunje in Magwar.
In a spectacle marked by traditional songs, cultural symbolism and passionate declarations of support, thousands of ODM supporters turned up to witness what many described as the formal political anointing of a man increasingly being viewed as one of the leading contenders in the battle to succeed the constituency's current leadership.
The highlight of the ceremony came when community elders presented Oyucho with a spear and shield, revered symbols of leadership in Luo culture. The spear symbolised courage and the willingness to fight for the interests of the people, while the shield represented protection and defence of the community's welfare.
The event transformed into an emotional celebration as supporters cheered, danced and sang in support of the respected lawyer and education administrator. Some openly shed tears as elders invoked blessings upon him, signalling their confidence in his leadership credentials.
"This honour is not about me but about the people of Seme. I receive these blessings with humility and a deep sense of responsibility. I remain committed to serving our people and working towards a united and prosperous constituency," Oyucho told the gathering.
The endorsement by elders appeared carefully designed to send a strong political message that sections of the community are already rallying behind Oyucho as the constituency begins to shape its political future ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Leading the endorsement were respected community elders John Oloo, James Oyugi and Hellen Atieno, who praised Oyucho's leadership qualities, professional achievements and commitment to community development.
The elders said the constituency required visionary leadership capable of championing development, empowering youth and strengthening education and economic opportunities.
However, the support extended far beyond the traditional leadership structures.
Several women and youth leaders also took to the podium to declare their backing for Oyucho, portraying him as a leader capable of uniting different generations and advancing the constituency's development agenda.
Among those who publicly endorsed him were Alice Atieno, Ken Owino, Tom Aimo, Wycliffe Omollo, Janes Otieno and Ken Okello, who urged residents to rally behind the emerging political movement.

The speakers described Oyucho as a disciplined, accessible and development-oriented leader whose profile has continued to rise across the constituency.
They argued that his track record in public service and his consistent engagement with grassroots communities had positioned him as the candidate to beat in the coming contest.
"We believe Timon Oyucho has what it takes to transform Seme. He has demonstrated leadership, integrity and commitment to the people. We urge him to continue working hard and remain focused on serving the community," said one of the speakers.
Political observers note that the endorsement reflects the growing enthusiasm surrounding Oyucho's possible candidature. While several names continue to circulate in local political circles, few have attracted the kind of public mobilisation witnessed at Kolunje.
Indeed, what was once viewed as an open contest is increasingly being shaped by Oyucho's growing influence across different segments of the electorate, including elders, professionals, women, youth and grassroots ODM supporters.
The strong turnout also highlighted the significance of grassroots networks in Seme politics, where community endorsement often plays a critical role in determining the direction of political contests.
For many supporters, the ceremony was more than a cultural event. It was a declaration that a new political force is emerging in Seme.
As chants of "Seme En Timon" echoed through the gathering and supporters waved party colours into the evening, one message stood out clearly: Timon Alfred Otieno Oyucho is no longer a political prospect being discussed on the sidelines. In the eyes of his supporters, he has become the focal point of an increasingly powerful movement seeking to shape the future leadership of Seme Constituency.
Whether that momentum ultimately translates into electoral victory remains to be seen. But after the scenes witnessed at Kolunje, few would dispute that Oyucho has firmly established himself among the leading figures in the race for Seme.
