Kenya, June 08, 2026 - The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested and arraigned a clerical officer attached to the Uasin Gishu Lands Office over corruption allegations.
In a statement on Monday, the commission said that the officer was apprehended over allegations of receiving bribes to facilitate the subdivision of lands.
The suspect was later presented in court, charged with receiving a bribe contrary to the Bribery Act 2016, according to the commission.
According to the commission, one complainant alleged that the officer demanded KSh100,000 to facilitate a land subdivision process.
“Following completion of investigations, EACC forwarded the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who approved the prosecution,” the commission stated.
“The accused was granted a cash bail of Kes30,000 or, alternatively, a bond of Kes100,000. EACC remains committed to combating corruption and promoting integrity in public service,” it added.
This comes at a time when the commission is ramping up efforts to weed out corrupt government officials in a broader effort to restore transparency and public trust in government offices.
The arrest of the official comes days after the commission announced the recovery of KSh65million in cash from the house of Chief Officer for Urban Development and Planning Patrick Analo Akivaga in Syokimau in Machakos County.
The commission said that the officer received the funds in Cash and M-Pesa deposits between the 2019/2020 and 2025/2026 financial years.
The commission alleged that the said official has accumulated immense assets that are disproportionate to his known legitimate sources of income.
Apart from the cash, the commission managed to recover other items believed to be proceeds of corruption, such as title deeds, motor vehicle log books, laptops, land and motor vehicle sale agreements, electronic devices, and approval plans from the County Government.
"Investigations are ongoing, and the findings will inform appropriate action, including prosecution and the recovery of unexplained wealth and proceeds of corruption," the commission said.
