Djibouti City (Dawan Africa) – The Taalo Saan Association on Friday awarded certificates to newly appointed youth focal points in Djibouti City and Balbala, launching a grassroots initiative to strengthen community action against gender-based violence (GBV) and female genital mutilation (FGM).
The focal points will act as trusted local links, leading awareness sessions in their neighbourhoods to promote gender equality and protect vulnerable groups.
“The direct involvement of young people is essential to changing mindsets and ensuring lasting change. These focal points, rooted in their communities, are both trusted actors and drivers of action,” said Zahra Ali Cheik, President of Taalo Saan.
The association plans to expand the initiative to Tadjourah and Dikhil in the coming months, creating a national youth network to coordinate and mobilise local efforts in preventing GBV and promoting women’s rights.
Taalo Saan says the approach is built on trust, participation, and shared responsibility between communities and youth leaders.
