Djibouti, 18 September 2026 Djibouti Telecom is investing in artificial intelligence skills after 35 of its engineers completed training in the technology, the Djiboutian News Agency (ADI) reported.
Communications, Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mohamed Abdoulkader Moussa Helem presided over a certification ceremony at the Ayla Hotel on Thursday.
The ceremony was also attended by Djibouti Telecom Director-General Mohamed Assoweh, Digital Economy and Innovation Ministry Secretary-General Abdallah Ibrahim Omar, artificial intelligence experts and academics.
Helem said artificial intelligence was already transforming economies and public administrations, adding that Djibouti should capitalize on the opportunities it offered while managing its risks.

An assessment conducted using UNESCO's Readiness Assessment Methodology found that Djibouti had made progress in digital transformation and strategic infrastructure but needed further development in skills, governance and research.
The minister said Djibouti Telecom could use artificial intelligence to improve its networks, strengthen cybersecurity and expand data analysis. He also urged the company to make its training programmes continuous as the technology evolves rapidly.
Helem called for closer cooperation between Djibouti Telecom, universities and research centres to turn training into experimentation, innovation and practical partnerships.
