Djibouti, 16 November 2025 — The Djibouti Ports and Free Zones Authority (DPFZA) has announced the completion of the 30-day extensive repair works on the cargo vessel Africa Sun.
The vessel was relaunched on Saturday evening after spending a month in dry dock.
A statement from DPFZA said the vessel entered the Djibouti Ship Repair Yard (DSRY) on 15 October at 09:30hrs and was returned to the water on 15 November at 17:30hrs, following a 30-day round-the-clock operation involving more than 150 technicians.
The repairs included hull cleaning and painting, structural and deck work, tank and piping maintenance, electrical and automation upgrades, and full safety-compliance checks.
DPFZA said over 108,000 man-hours were recorded during the maintenance period.

The successful turnaround is the latest signal of Djibouti’s expanding capacity in maritime repair — a sector the government has identified as strategic to its port-services economy.
Earlier this year, the DSRY officially launched its maritime-repair services with the successful maintenance of the MF Abu Yasser, marking the yard’s first operational debut.
The Africa Sun repair now stands as its second major milestone, reflecting increasing technical capability and a growing portfolio of serviced vessels.
Officials say the country’s investment in ship-repair capacity aims to reduce turnaround times for regional shipping, attract new commercial traffic and diversify Djibouti’s port revenues.
