India, 9 January 2026 - India on Friday reaffirmed its commitment to the territorial integrity of Somalia, distancing itself from growing regional moves to recognize Somaliland.
During a weekly media briefing on Friday, the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that New Delhi is respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia.
"India has longstanding ties with Somalia. We continue to underline the importance of respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country," Jaiswal told reporters in response to questions regarding the self-declared state.

The statement comes amid heightened diplomatic tension in the Horn of Africa following Israel's decision in late last year to recognize Somaliland.
Somalia, which currently holds the presidency of the U.N. Security Council, has vowed to take "all necessary legal measures" to protect its borders. By reiterating its support for Mogadishu, India aligns itself with the majority of the international community and the African Union's stance on the inviolability of post-colonial borders.
