Ethiopia, 8 January 2026- China has reaffirmed its support for regional connectivity in the Horn of Africa, explicitly encouraging access to the sea for landlocked countries, including Ethiopia, through diplomatic means.
In a joint press release issued after talks between the foreign ministers of China and Ethiopia, Beijing said it attaches “great importance” to Ethiopia’s role in the Horn of Africa and commended progress achieved under China’s Outlook on Peace and Development in the region.

The Chinese side stated that, based on respect for the UN Charter, international law, and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the countries concerned, it encourages regional states to deepen connectivity cooperation and African integration, including by promoting maritime logistics through access to the sea.
China emphasized that such efforts should be pursued through dialogue and diplomatic channels, with the stated goal of advancing regional peace, stability, and prosperity.
