Doha, 23 September 2026 Djibouti and Qatar on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation in awqaf and Islamic affairs, according to Djibouti’s state news agency ADI.
The agreement was signed by Djibouti’s Minister of Muslim Affairs and Awqaf, Moumin Hassan Barreh, and his Qatari counterpart, Ghanem bin Shaheen bin Ghanem Al Ghanim, in the presence of officials from both countries.
The agreement establishes a formal framework for the two ministries to exchange expertise and working practices, particularly in the development and management of awqaf assets.

The two sides also plan to develop joint programmes aimed at promoting Islamic values while supporting sustainable development goals.
The signing ceremony was attended by Djibouti’s Ambassador to Qatar Tayeb Dabed Robleh, Secretary-General of the Ministry Chouaib Adjal Saghir, Director-General of the Awqaf Assets Directorate Elmi Nour Djama and ministerial adviser Bachir Hussein Warsama, as well as senior officials from Qatar’s Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs.
The agreement is part of Djibouti’s efforts to expand regional and international cooperation in Islamic affairs and awqaf management.
