DJIBOUTI (Dawan) – July 29, 2026 – The Djibouti government has launched an emergency response for communities affected by severe storms that struck the Mouloud area in Dikhil Region, leaving one person dead, 12 injured and causing damage to homes and businesses, according to the Djibouti News Agency.
President Ismail Omar Guelleh directed authorities to respond immediately to the situation, with a government delegation led by Minister of Social Affairs and Community Solidarity Ouloufa Ismail Abdi and Minister of Trade and Tourism Orbis Heleff Orbis sent to assess the damage and coordinate relief efforts.
An initial assessment found that the storms damaged 164 homes and six commercial facilities. The injured victims are receiving treatment at hospitals in Dikhil, Ali Sabieh and Djibouti City.

The government delegation met affected families, delivered a message of support from the president and supervised the distribution of emergency assistance.
Relief supplies provided to affected communities included food, mattresses, blankets, water storage containers and other essential items. Three water tanker trucks were also deployed to support residents affected by the storms.
Authorities said the first phase of the emergency response will be followed by further assessments to identify specific needs among affected families. Additional assistance is expected to be delivered in the coming days as recovery efforts continue and conditions return to normal.
