Djibouti, 8 December 2025 – President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh of Djibouti hosted Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Director-General Qu Dongyu at the presidential palace on Sunday during an official visit to the country.
The meeting focused on Djibouti’s development priorities and the FAO’s support in addressing food insecurity. Officials discussed initiatives to diversify food production, develop agriculture and livestock projects, and enhance trade in the agricultural and fisheries sectors.
Djibouti’s Minister of Agriculture, Mohamed Ahmed Awale, confirmed that discussions included financial commitment of approximately $100 million to support agricultural and livestock development projects.

“We discussed Djibouti’s investment plans and FAO’s commitment to supporting the country in developing programs that will help it become an economic hub.”
The meeting was attended by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture, and Djibouti’s permanent representation to FAO.
FAO’s engagement in Djibouti includes projects in nutrition, food diversification, and agricultural development aimed at strengthening the country’s food security.
