Qatar, 17 September 2025 – Djibouti's President, Ismail Omar Guelleh, departed Doha on Tuesday, en route to New York to attend the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 80).
The UNGA 80 commenced on September 9, 2025, with high-level global discussions scheduled from September 23 to 27. The session is expected to conclude on September 29, 2025.
President Guelleh will participate in the High-Level Debate, where world leaders will address issues of peace, security, sustainable development, and diplomatic cooperation.
In addition to the High-Level Debate, UNGA will host key events including;
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Moment, focusing on global efforts to achieve the goals.
The UN Global Compact Leaders Summit, featuring business leaders, UN officials, and civil society representatives.
A Climate Summit, urging global leaders to present new plans to combat climate change and promote clean energy.
President Guelleh’s trip follows his participation in an emergency Arab-Islamic summit held in Doha, which focused on Israel's recent airstrike on Qatar, which targeted a building hosting Hamas leaders.
