Somalia, July 13 2026 – Djibouti's Director General of the National Police Colonel Abdourahman Ali Kahin reaffirmed support for Somalia on Sunday in Mogadishu describing it as Djibouti’s "second country" and pledging continued cooperation between the two nations.
Kahin made the remarks at a reception hosted in his honour and attended by senior officers, government officials, lawmakers and business representatives.
Kahin said Djibouti's commitment to Somalia was rooted in the close historical relationship between the two countries.
"Somalia is our second country. We have two countries: Djibouti and Somalia," he said.
Kahin said Somalia had played an important role in Djibouti's struggle for independence, adding that Djibouti remained committed to supporting Somalia as it worked to restore stability.
"If Somalia had not existed, Djibouti would not have achieved independence," he said.

Kahin also rejected what he described as exaggerated accounts of Somalia's security situation, saying he planned to travel to different parts of the country to assess conditions first-hand.
"A lot of false information is circulated," he said
The police chief said he intended to visit several regions during his stay to gain a better understanding of the situation on the ground.
