Djibouti (Dawan Africa) — President Ismail Omar Guelleh inaugurated the new headquarters of the Ministry of Energy on Tuesday, a major step in streamlining the country's energy sector. Located on a 5,000-square-meter site at the historic Djibouti Station on Serpent Plateau, the new facility represents a significant investment in Djibouti's energy infrastructure.
The headquarters consists of two modern buildings, with the main eight-story structure centralizing all energy-related services, including the Minister's office and executive staff. Equipped with conference rooms, auditoriums, and seminar spaces, the complex is designed to enhance Djibouti's capacity for energy policy-making, international collaboration, and innovation.
“These new arrangements will allow the country to address energy challenges from a unified base, breaking from the past where the Ministry operated from multiple locations,” President Guelleh stated. “This is a major step forward in Djibouti's energy development, helping us attract foreign partners and advance our energy transition.”
Although the project involved a technical partnership with the China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), its construction was fully funded by Djibouti’s government. The second building within the complex further strengthens the Ministry's ability to manage energy projects and facilitate global cooperation.
The inauguration was attended by key officials, including Acting Prime Minister M. Ali Hassan Bahdon and Minister of Energy M. Yonis Ali Guedi, all of whom expressed strong support for the project.
This new headquarters is expected to play a pivotal role in Djibouti's efforts to transition to sustainable energy, positioning the country as a leader in regional energy security and development.
