Djibouti, 9 October 2025 — The Government of Djibouti has launched the final phase of the Djibouti Postal Bank project, a key initiative aimed at expanding financial inclusion and modernizing the national banking system.
Supported by the French Development Agency (AFD) and Postal Bank of France, the project will provide accessible banking services — including savings, credit, transfers, and payments — especially for youth, pensioners, and rural communities.
The Wednesday’s launch coincided with World Postal Day celebrations, organized by the Ministry of Communication and Posts, and presided over by Minister Radwan Abdillahi Bahdon. The event brought together senior officials and partners, including Secretary of State for Sports Hassan Kamil, Djibouti Post Director General Bahnan Ali Maidal, and Broadcasting Director Aden Abdi Djama, alongside representatives from AFD and La Poste France.
“The creation of the Djibouti Postal Bank is a major step forward in national development. This modern institution will make banking services accessible to all citizens and promote economic and social inclusion across the country,” said Minister Bahdon.
Developed with technical support from AFD and Postal Bank of France, the initiative received guidance in institutional design, product development, and governance.
“This mission has laid a strong foundation for an institution set to become a central player in Djibouti’s economic transformation,” the minister added.
The bank will leverage Djibouti Post’s nationwide network to deliver services even in remote areas. Future plans include a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Agency for Employment, Training and Professional Integration (ANEFIP) to boost youth employment in logistics and delivery, and new e-commerce partnerships with Amazon France and Cart’in.
