Djibouti, 13 October 2025 — Djibouti has launched a training program on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in education to promote its responsible application within the sector.
The programme was initiated by the Inspection General of National Education (IGEN) in partnership with the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFOP) and the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF). IGEN serves as the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD)'s regional policy framework for education in its member countries, including Djibouti.
As part of the 2025–2026 Continuing Education Plan, the initiative targets MENFOP’s pedagogical inspectors, aiming to enhance their ability to use AI tools responsibly and effectively in educational supervision, teacher training, and policy planning.
The training, led by Houssein Ahmed Assowe from the University of Djibouti, includes theoretical modules, case studies, and practical workshops on integrating AI into classroom and administrative practices.
Spanning seven sessions between October 2025 and January 2026, the initiative reflects Djibouti’s broader efforts to incorporate digital technologies into the education system and to strengthen governance within the sector.
Education officials said the training aims to ensure AI use in schools follows ethical standards and supports evidence-based decision-making.
