Djibouti, 10 June 2026 – Djibouti Electricity, the state power utility, posted $8.2 million profit for 2024, Council of Ministers figures showed on Tuesday.
According to the figures, the company’s total revenue was 41.96 billion Djiboutian francs and expenses 40.50 billion francs, leaving a surplus of 1.46 billion francs, equivalent to about $8.2 million.
However, the 2024 profit was lower than the previous year, when the company recorded a surplus of 2.9 billion francs.
According to the government statement, revenue increased from 35.8 billion francs in 2023 to 41.9 billion francs in 2024. The increase was mainly driven by energy sales, works and services, which reached 32.4 billion francs, compared with 31.6 billion francs a year earlier.

Operating expenses also rose, increasing by 26% from 31.2 billion francs in 2023 to 39.4 billion francs in 2024.
Electricity production increased by 7.2% to 763,851 megawatt-hours in 2024. Of that total, 438,529 MWh came from interconnection, 118,783 MWh from diesel generators and 206,539 MWh from wind power.
The company employed 1,164 workers in 2024, compared with 1,145 in 2023.
The government said Djibouti Electricity also made investments worth 2.1 billion francs in 2024, covering software, construction, technical installations, equipment, office furniture, computer equipment and vehicles.
