DJIBOUTI, September 18, 2026 Djibouti’s National Gendarmerie arrested 180 people in a large-scale operation targeting criminal activity, the Djiboutian News Agency (ADI) reported.
The operation, carried out on Thursday, targeted several areas identified by security forces as hotspots for crime.
Those detained included suspected members of organised gangs, some of whom were carrying weapons and were believed to be involved in extortion, ADI said.
The gendarmerie also seized weapons and alcoholic beverages being sold in areas where such sales are prohibited, according to the agency.

Authorities did not identify the areas targeted, disclose the number of weapons seized.
