DJIBOUTI, September 17, 2026 Djibouti and United Nations agencies called for national and international assistance on Wednesday following an increase in the number of Yemeni refugees arriving in the country in recent days, according to the Djiboutian News Agency.
Djibouti’s foreign ministry urged the country’s citizens, bilateral partners, international organisations and the wider international community to contribute urgently to relief efforts for people fleeing Yemen.
Most of the new arrivals have reached the Obock region after crossing the waters separating the Yemeni and Djiboutian coasts.
Djibouti’s government said the number of arrivals continued to rise and that an urgent and effective response was needed to meet their humanitarian needs.
Obock, located near the Bab al-Mandab Strait, is among the main entry points for people crossing from Yemen.
The new arrivals are increasing demand for shelter, food, healthcare and other essential assistance.
Djibouti said it needed international support to address the growing needs of Yemeni refugees entering the country.
