BOSASO, 1 November 2026 - The coastal city of Bosaso, capital of Bari region, has made history by hosting Somalia's first-ever beach soccer tournament.
The tournament, which kicked off on October 30, features six teams based in Bosaso, following a joint initiative by the Somali Football Federation and the Puntland Football Association.
In another milestone, female teams have participated in beach soccer for the first time in Somalia, giving women players an opportunity to compete in the emerging discipline.
The Puntland Football Association said the initiative represents an important step towards expanding women's participation in sports and encouraging Somali girls to explore new sporting opportunities.
The association also described the tournament as a significant development in promoting beach soccer in the country, highlighting the role of its collaboration with the Somali Football Federation in making the event possible.
Beyond the competition, the tournament is expected to provide a platform for identifying young talent, raising competitive standards and laying the groundwork for the development of beach soccer in Somalia.
