Kenya, June 26 ,2026 - The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has secured key court orders advancing extradition proceedings against Kenyan national Brian Kiprop Kiplagat, who is wanted in the United Kingdom over multiple criminal charges, including murder.
Appearing before the Milimani Law Courts on Friday, prosecutors told the court that UK authorities are seeking Kiplagat's extradition to face charges of murder, manslaughter, perverting the course of justice, and fraud by false representation.
Principal Magistrate Bosibori Nyangema granted the prosecution's application to endorse two warrants of arrest issued by the Westminster Court in the United Kingdom, clearing the way for the formal commencement of extradition proceedings under Kenyan law and international legal cooperation frameworks.
The prosecution also successfully opposed Kiplagat's application for bail, with the court ordering that he remain in custody pending the next hearing.
"The court allowed the DPP's application to endorse two warrants of arrest issued by the Westminster Court, paving the way for the commencement of the extradition process in accordance with Kenyan law and international legal cooperation frameworks," the ODPP said in a statement.
The case will be mentioned on Monday, June 29, 2026, when the court is expected to issue further directions on the extradition proceedings.
The prosecution team is led by Senior Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Vincent Monda, assisted by prosecutors Victor Owiti, Magdalyne Nduati and Brenda Nandwa.
If the extradition application succeeds, Kiplagat will be surrendered to the UK to stand trial on the charges preferred against him by British authorities.
