MOGADISHU, September 18, 2026 A cargo ship carrying nearly 7,008 tonnes of goods has run aground off Somalia after water entered part of the vessel, the country’s Ministry of Ports and Marine Transport said on Thursday.
The M/V JACUAR, registered under International Maritime Organization number 9181821, is sailing under the flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis.
The ministry said the vessel had departed from Nacala port in Mozambique and was heading to Adabiya port in Egypt with 7,007.73 tonnes of cargo.

Eighteen crew members from India, Syria and Egypt were aboard the ship.
Somali authorities were coordinating emergency and rescue operations with other relevant agencies to protect the crew and manage the situation, the ministry said.The ministry did not disclose the vessel’s precise location, the type of cargo it was carrying or whether any crew members had been injured.
It said it was closely monitoring the situation and would provide further updates.
