Kenya, April 8, 2026 - Bayern Munich delivered a statement performance at the Santiago Bernabéu, defeating Real Madrid 2-1 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final on April 7, 2026, to take a valuable advantage back to Germany.
In a clash between two European heavyweights, Bayern showed greater sharpness in key moments, striking decisively while absorbing pressure from the hosts. The breakthrough came in the first half, when Luis Díaz opened the scoring after being set up by Serge Gnabry. The winger made no mistake, finishing clinically to give Bayern the lead and silence the Bernabéu crowd.
Bayern carried that momentum into the second half and doubled their advantage shortly after the restart. In the 50th minute, Harry Kane finished off a swift counterattack, capping off a fluid move to make it 2-0 and put the German side firmly in control of the tie.
Despite being outplayed for long stretches, Real Madrid responded with urgency and determination. The closing minutes saw intense pressure from Madrid, with waves of attacks aimed at finding an equalizer. However, Bayern’s defensive organization, combined with key saves from Manuel Neuer, ensured they held onto their lead until the final whistle.
This result puts Bayern Munich in a strong position ahead of the second leg at the Allianz Arena. More importantly, it underlines their clinical edge in decisive moments, something that ultimately separated the two sides on the night.
