Somalia, 29 January 2026 The Banadir Regional Court has dismissed a criminal case and cancelled an arrest warrant previously issued against Jubaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam ‘Madobe’, the court confirmed on Thursday.
The decision, issued from the office of the court’s chairman, stated that the case file had been fully closed following a request from Somalia’s Office of the Attorney General.
Madobe had been accused by the federal government of national betrayal, acts against Somalia’s unity and sovereignty, and administrative irregularities.
“The court has annulled the arrest warrant and pre-trial detention order previously issued against the defendant Ahmed Mohamed Islaan,” the statement, signed by the Deputy Chairman of the court, said.

The ruling comes amid prolonged political disputes between Somalia’s federal government and Jubaland’s leadership, particularly regarding elections and the federal governance framework.
The warrant, initially issued in November 2024, followed a tense standoff between Mogadishu and Kismayo over the “one person, one vote” electoral process.
The court decision comes ahead of Ahmed Madoobe’s anticipated arrival in Mogadishu, where he is expected to participate in talks with the federal government and the Somali Future Council, scheduled to convene on February 1, 2026.
