Ethiopia, 15 November 2025 — The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Ali Youssouf, praised Ethiopia’s selection to host the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP32), describing the decision as a “historic victory for the African continent and for global climate action.”
Youssouf said he sent a congratulatory message to the Ethiopian government following the official announcement of its successful bid, noting that the decision reflects Africa’s united stance and the continent’s growing efforts to push for more effective measures to address climate-change challenges.
He affirmed that Ethiopia, under the leadership of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, has cemented its status as a continental leader in climate action through major reforestation initiatives, green-development projects, and environmental protection programs.
He added that Addis Ababa — the headquarters of the African Union — possesses the institutional readiness and expertise required to host an international conference of this scale.
