Ethiopia,11 April 2026 — The African Union has congratulated Djibouti’s President Ismail Omar Guelleh following his re-election, praising the country’s peaceful electoral process and democratic commitment.
In an official statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahamoud Ali Youssouf welcomed the results announced by Djibouti’s electoral commission, confirming the outcome of the presidential vote.
The AU commended the people of Djibouti for their peaceful participation in the election, describing it as a reflection of their commitment to democracy, national unity, and stability.

The statement also highlighted Djibouti’s important role in promoting peace, security, and regional cooperation in the Horn of Africa, reaffirming the African Union’s commitment to strengthening partnerships and advancing the goals of Agenda 2063.
The AU further praised its election observation mission and expressed appreciation for the leadership of Bernard Makuza, former Prime Minister of Rwanda, who headed the mission.
Chairperson Youssouf wished President Guelleh success during his new term, expressing confidence that Djibouti will continue to play a key role in regional stability and development.
