Kenya, 7 December 2025 - AFC Leopards on Sunday produced one of their most determined performances of the season as they defeated arch-rivals Gor Mahia in a dramatic Mashemeji Derby clash, securing bragging rights and handing K’Ogalo their second consecutive league loss.
The derby, always heated and emotionally charged, lived up to its billing at a packed venue as both sides entered with contrasting motivations.
Gor Mahia, chasing top spot, hoped to bounce back from a disappointing defeat in their previous match. AFC Leopards, on the other hand, were driven by pride, hunger, and a desire to derail their rivals’ title charge.
Despite Gor Mahia starting the match brightly, controlling possession and launching several early attacks, their dominance did not translate into goals.
Leopards remained composed, absorbing pressure and choosing the right moments to break forward.
Their strategy paid off in the 26th minute when Mwaba opened the scoring with a calm, clinical finish.
The goal sent the Leopards’ supporters into a frenzy, shifting the momentum firmly in Ingwe’s favour.
Gor Mahia attempted to respond before the break, pushing numbers forward and creating half-chances, but Leopards’ disciplined backline held firm. The first half ended 1–0 to AFC Leopards.
Knowing a derby defeat would intensify pressure on the technical bench, Charles Akonnor’s men returned for the second half looking more purposeful.

They created multiple opportunities, especially from wide areas, but poor finishing let them down at crucial moments. The forwards failed to convert chances that could have changed the game, much to the frustration of the K’Ogalo supporters.
AFC Leopards, sensing a massive victory, tightened their defensive shape in the closing stages.
Their resilience, organisation, and teamwork ensured Gor Mahia found no breakthrough.
When the final whistle blew, Ingwe celebrated a memorable victory, one that will be remembered for both its emotion and tactical discipline.
The 1-0 defeat leaves Gor Mahia second in the FKF Premier League table with 19 points, one behind leaders Police FC.
Consecutive losses, first to bottom-placed APS and now to bitter rivals AFC Leopards, mean questions will inevitably rise around the team’s form and the pressure on the coaching staff.
