Mogadishu (Dawan Africa) Eighty-five Somali lawmakers calling themselves “Independent Parliament” have urged international bodies to investigate senior security officials accused of human rights violations, corruption, and abuse of power.
The MPs singled out the Banadir Regional Police Commander, Mahdi Omar Mumin, alleging responsibility for multiple abuses, including the forced displacement of civilians, destruction of homes and property, and unlawful detention of civilians who complained.

The lawmakers also accused other officers under Mumin’s command for participating in these acts, alleging a coordinated pattern of misconduct.
The parliamentarians urged legal and financial measures, including sanctions and travel bans. They called for international security partners to respect the rule of law pending investigations.
