Somalia, 30 June 2026 – Somalia’s defence ministry said airstrikes carried out with Turkish forces killed about 35 Al-Shabaab fighters in the Lower Shabelle region on Tuesday.
The ministry said Somali National Army forces, working with Turkish forces, used F-16 fighter jets to strike targets in Godey, including caves, weapons stores and shelters used by Al-Shabaab fighters.
It said more than 20 other fighters were seriously wounded in the strikes.
The ministry said large explosions were reported after the airstrikes, which it said indicated the site had been used to store weapons, explosives and military supplies.
