9 May 2026 - Wajir County on Friday joined the world in marking International Nurses Week, celebrated from 6 to 12 May under the theme “Our Nurses, Our Future: Empowered Nurses Save Lives”.
The event recognised the dedication of nurses in delivering quality healthcare across the county.
Speaking during the celebrations, Wajir County CECM for Health Habiba Ali, praised nurses for their tireless service.
She highlighted the county’s significant progress in healthcare staffing, which has grown from 155 nurses before devolution to 464 nurses, including Universal Health Care (UHC) nurses, under the leadership of Governor Ahmed Abdullahi.
Habiba also noted improvements in healthcare infrastructure, including the renovation and construction of new facilities such as the new Accident and Emergency Unit at Wajir County Referral Hospital.

She further announced plans to reward outstanding nurses and staff to promote excellence in service delivery.
