Addis Ababa, 17 September 2026 The U.S. Embassy in Ethiopia has warned its citizens against travelling to Doolo Zone in the Somali Region, citing possible threats to foreigners, including U.S. citizens.
In a security alert issued on Sept. 16, 2026, the embassy said it was aware of potential threats in Doolo but did not provide details about the nature of the threats or who might be behind them.
Due to increased risks facing foreigners travelling in the area, U.S. government personnel are no longer permitted to visit Doolo without special authorisation, the embassy said.

The embassy advised U.S. citizens not to travel to Doolo. Those already in or near the area were urged to avoid the zone and stay away from crowds.
Citizens were also advised to remain alert, maintain awareness of their surroundings, review their personal security arrangements and prepare contingency plans to leave if the situation deteriorates.
Doolo is located in Ethiopia's Somali Region. The U.S. Embassy did not indicate how long the warning would remain in effect or whether the reported threat was connected to a specific incident.
