Somalia, 2 December 2025 — U.S. Ambassador to Somalia, Richard H. Riley, led a delegation on a visit to Kismaayo in Jubaland, where he met with Jubaland State President Ahmed Mohamed Islam ‘Madobe' to discuss security collaboration, U.S. support for development projects, and the broader political situation in Somalia.
According to Jubaland presidency, the meeting, attended by senior Jubaland ministers, focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation on counter-terrorism efforts, particularly against Al-Shabaab, as well as advancing development initiatives and promoting national unity.
The U.S. Embassy in Somalia quoted Ambassador Riley as saying: “Today, together with the President of Jubaland, Mr. Madobe, we met in Kismayo to discuss the importance of national unity in combating terrorism, so that the people of Jubaland and all Somalis can benefit.”

The visit comes amid ongoing military operations against Al-Shabaab in central and southern Somalia, and continued political tensions between Jubaland and the federal government that have persisted for over a year.
