Somalia, 27 April 2026 The United Nations’ humanitarian chief arrived in Somalia Monday for talks with government officials and aid partners on humanitarian needs, response efforts and funding, Somali officials told Dawan Media.
Tom Fletcher, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, was received by Deputy Foreign Minister Hasan Mohamed Ali and the head of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mahamud Mo’allim Abdulle, according to officials.
Somali government sources said he will meet senior government officials during his visit, as well as visit several displacement camps in Mogadishu. He is also scheduled to travel to Baidoa in South West State.

The visit, which runs from April 27 to May 1, will include meetings with United Nations agencies and humanitarian partners, a source told Dawan.
Discussions are set to focus on accelerating assistance to vulnerable populations and raising international awareness of Somalia’s humanitarian situation.
Somalia faces recurring humanitarian challenges linked to drought, displacement and food insecurity, with aid agencies warning of continued needs across several regions.
