Somalia, 4 November 2025— The UN Office for Project Services (UNOPS) on Monday handed over ICT equipment worth USD 314,697 to Somalia’s Ministries of Defence, Internal Security, and Justice & Constitutional Affairs, as part of efforts to strengthen digital capacity and improve institutional efficiency across key security institutions.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Defence Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi said the support aligns with the government’s digital reform agenda.
“This handover demonstrates our strong partnership with international allies in strengthening governance and institutional capacity in the security and justice sectors,” he said.
Fiqi noted that digital systems will play a critical role in improving oversight and performance.
“Digital transformation is at the heart of our reform agenda. Modern ICT systems will improve transparency, oversight and operational efficiency,” he said, adding that a dedicated ICT department has been established to drive the effort.
He highlighted the need for continued technical support and capacity-building as Somalia modernises its state institutions.
“With this equipment, we are ready to modernize our HR, logistics, financial and command systems. We encourage our partners to expedite software delivery and to support us through training and mentorship.”
Fiqi said the support reflects growing international confidence in Somalia’s institutional reforms.
“This handover is more than just equipment — it represents trust, partnership, and a shared vision for a modern and accountable security sector.”
The new equipment includes workstations, laptops, biometric registration devices, digital identification tools, printers, large-format screens, and multimedia equipment intended to strengthen data management, personnel systems, and electronic administrative services across the three ministries.
UNOPS confirmed to Dawan Africa that the consignment’s value totals $314,697.
The event was attended by Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartaag), Minister of Internal Security; Hassan Moallim Mahmoud, Minister of Justice & Constitutional Affairs; and Francesca Di Mauro, the European Union’s Ambassador to Somalia, along with senior UNOPS officials.
