Sudan, 1 November 2025 - The foreign ministers of the United Kingdom (UK), Germany, and Jordan have jointly called for an “immediate and unconditional ceasefire” in Sudan, condemning what they described as “stark and apocalyptic atrocities” in the western city of El Fasher.
Speaking at a regional security summit in the Bahraini capital, Manama, on Saturday, the three top diplomats warned that Sudan is sliding further into chaos as fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) intensifies.
Their statement follows fresh reports of mass killings and sexual violence committed during the RSF’s latest offensive to seize El Fasher — the last major city in Darfur still under government control before falling to the militia on Sunday.
Once home to more than 260,000 people, El Fasher has become the epicentre of the conflict’s humanitarian catastrophe.
The United Nations says at least 62,000 people have fled El Fasher and surrounding villages between 26 and 29 October alone.
“They leave behind their homes and livelihoods, carrying almost nothing,” said a UN humanitarian coordinator, adding that insecurity along escape routes has made aid delivery nearly impossible.
Further south, the situation in North Kordofan State is also deteriorating rapidly.
According to the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), 36,000 people have been displaced from Bara town, north of the state capital El Obeid, following RSF advances.
Reports have emerged of five Sudanese Red Crescent volunteers being summarily executed and at least 25 women gang-raped when RSF fighters stormed a shelter for displaced families near El Fasher University.
International aid agencies have condemned what Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) calls “mass atrocities” against civilians.
In a recent appeal, MSF described hospitals overwhelmed with gunshot victims and children dying from malnutrition and untreated infections.
More than 12 million Sudanese have now been displaced since the conflict erupted in April 2023 — the world’s largest displacement crisis in UN history.
