ISTANBUL (Dawan Africa) – Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will visit Egypt on Saturday for high-level talks expected to cover Somalia alongside the Gaza crisis and wider regional stability, diplomatic sources say.
Fidan is scheduled to meet Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and hold discussions with Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty. The agenda includes strengthening Türkiye–Egypt relations and exploring areas of joint cooperation in North Africa, East Africa, and the Sahel.
Somalia is among the key topics to be addressed, with both countries expected to discuss political developments, security cooperation, and opportunities for joint initiatives aimed at supporting stability in the Horn of Africa. Türkiye has been a major security and development partner for Somalia, while Egypt has maintained diplomatic engagement and training programmes with Somali institutions.
The talks will also cover ceasefire negotiations between Hamas and Israel, mediated by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States, as well as efforts to ensure humanitarian aid reaches Gaza without interruption.
Ankara says Fidan will emphasize opposition to any moves that could lead to the annexation of Gaza and undermine the two-state solution, warning such actions are a major threat to regional stability.
The Cairo meetings will follow up on outcomes from the International Conference on Palestine held in New York on July 28–30, in which Türkiye participated.
Fidan and Abdelatty last met in Istanbul during the 51st session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers on June 20–21. His last visit to Cairo was on March 23 for the OIC–Arab League Gaza Contact Group meeting.
