Mogadishu, 14 September 2026 The Embassy of Türkiye in Somalia has published a farewell message from Ambassador Alper Aktaş announcing the conclusion of his tenure in Mogadishu as he moves to a new diplomatic assignment.
Aktaş said it was an honour to serve in Somalia since March 2024 and that he contributed to strengthening relations between Somalia and Türkiye.
He said the partnership between the two countries is based on mutual respect, equality and support, noting that Türkiye has worked with Somalia in areas including economic development, security, education, health, humanitarian assistance and institutional capacity building.
He said Somalia has made progress in several areas, particularly in restoring stability in urban areas and improving public services, citing the return of daily life and a more secure environment in Mogadishu as examples.

Aktaş also highlighted Türkiye's support to Somalia through direct investment, growing trade relations, infrastructure development, the blue economy, energy and healthcare.
He said he believes Somalia will continue benefiting from available opportunities and achieve further progress in the coming years and that relations between Somalia and Türkiye will continue to grow as the two countries prepare to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
The Embassy of Türkiye in Somalia expressed appreciation to the Somali people, government institutions and all partners who worked with Aktaş during his tenure.
