Kenya, July 28,2026 - The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced one of the largest recruitment and career progression exercises in its history, opening 54,016 teaching vacancies comprising 20,000 permanent and pensionable positions for Junior School teachers and 34,016 promotion opportunities for serving teachers across the country.
The vacancies, published in the latest MyGov government advertisement, form part of the Commission's broader efforts to address teacher shortages, strengthen staffing under the Competency-Based Education (CBE) framework and unlock career progression for educators who have remained in the same job groups for years.
The promotion opportunities target teachers in primary schools, secondary schools, Teachers Training Colleges (TTCs), Special Needs Education (SNE) institutions and Curriculum Support Officers.
Positions advertised range from Chief Principal and Senior Principal to Deputy Principals, Headteachers, Senior Masters, Senior Teachers and Senior Lecturers, reflecting one of the most comprehensive promotion exercises undertaken by the Commission.
Among the largest allocations are 13,490 Senior Teacher II positions, followed by 5,956 Senior Master IV vacancies, 4,210 Senior Teacher I positions, 3,075 Deputy Headteacher II posts, 1,865 Deputy Headteacher I positions, 1,665 Senior Master III vacancies, 1,068 Deputy Principal III positions, and 891 Deputy Principal II positions.
TSC has directed interested teachers seeking promotions to submit their applications online through the Teachers Online portal by midnight on August 10, 2026.
"Interested candidates should submit their applications online through the TSC portal: teachersonline.go.ke, to be received no later than Monday, August 10, 2026, midnight," the Commission said.
In a separate recruitment notice, the Commission also advertised 20,000 post-primary teaching positions for deployment in Junior Schools as the government continues implementing the Competency-Based Education curriculum.

The positions are open to Kenyan citizens who are registered with the Teachers Service Commission, possess at least a Diploma in Education, attained a minimum KCSE mean grade of C+ and scored at least C+ in two teaching subjects or equivalent qualifications. Applicants must also not have previously been employed by TSC and dismissed on disciplinary grounds.
Applications for the Junior School positions will be submitted online between August 18 and August 31, 2026, with recruitment expected to be conducted on merit and guided by staffing needs across counties. Successful applicants will be deployed to teach learning areas under the Junior School curriculum, while teacher interns who secure permanent employment will remain in their current stations.
The latest recruitment follows earlier commitments by TSC to improve teachers' welfare after the National Treasury allocated additional resources for salary enhancements, promotions and permanent recruitment of Junior School teachers.
The Commission has previously indicated that the recruitment drive forms part of ongoing efforts to address staffing shortages while supporting the full rollout of Competency-Based Education across the country.
TSC cautioned applicants against fraudsters who often exploit government recruitment exercises, emphasizing that the entire application process is free of charge and that no payments should be made to secure employment.
"The recruitment exercise is free of charge. TSC forewarns applicants against fraudsters who might extort money from unsuspecting persons purporting to assist in recruitment," the Commission warned.
