Minnesota, (Dawan Africa) – U.S. President Donald Trump launched on Friday a new attack on Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar, tying her to her country of origin, Somalia, following the indictment of eight people in Minnesota over a large-scale Medicaid-related fraud scheme.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump questioned Omar’s links to the accused, who allegedly defrauded the state’s Housing Stabilization Services program of more than $8.4 million.
“Does Ilhan Omar know these people? Are they from her wonderfully managed Home Country of Somalia?” Trump wrote, sharing a news report from Libs of TikTok on X.
Federal prosecutors announced charges against eight individuals: Moktar Hass Aden, Mustafa Dayib Ali, Khalid Ahmed Dayib, Abdifitah Mohamud Mohamed, Christopher Adesoji Falade, Emmanuel Oluwademilade Falade, Asad Ahmed Adow, and Anwar Ahmed Adow.
According to authorities, the defendants created sham companies and billed Minnesota’s Housing Stabilization Services program—an initiative funded through Medicaid to assist vulnerable residents in securing and maintaining housing—for services that were never provided. The alleged scheme resulted in approximately $8.4 million in stolen taxpayer funds.
Trump followed up with a second post in which he sharply criticized Omar’s record and conditions in Somalia.
“Ilhan Omar’s Country of Somalia is plagued by a lack of central Government control, persistent Poverty, Hunger, Resurgent Terrorism, Piracy, decades of Civil War, Corruption, and pervasive Violence. 70% of the population lives in extreme Poverty, and widespread Food Insecurity,” he wrote.
“Somalia is consistently ranked among the World’s Most Corrupt Countries, including Bribery, Embezzlement, and a Dysfunctional Government. All of this, and Ilhan Omar tells us how to run America!
The remarks come as Omar, a Somali-American representing Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, continues to be a frequent target of Trump’s criticism. The charges against the eight individuals are unrelated to Omar, but Trump’s comments link the case to his broader attacks on the congresswoman and her background.
