Mogadishu (Dawan Africa) – Three of the eight passengers aboard a helicopter that crashed near Aden Abdulle International Airport in Mogadishu have been rescued and transported to the AUSSOM Level II hospital for immediate medical treatment, local authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred on Wednesday morning as the helicopter, operated by the Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces (UPDF), was en route to the airport. According to a statement from the African Union Stabilization and Support Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), three of the eight passengers were swiftly rescued and rushed to the hospital for medical care. The condition of the injured passengers has not been disclosed.
“Search and rescue operations are currently underway to retrieve the remaining crew and passengers,” AUSSOM added in the statement. Authorities are continuing their efforts to locate the other five individuals who were aboard the aircraft.
The cause of the crash is under investigation by aviation authorities, with ongoing efforts to determine the factors that led to the incident.
AUSSOM also expressed gratitude for the quick response of rescue teams and medical personnel, assuring that further updates will be provided as the investigation unfolds.
